The Test

I wake up to blinding hot sunlight. It's like waking in standing position. I'm disoriented and having difficulty with sense of direction. The island is there, but everything seems reversed now from how I remember it. I begin running to find water as instructed. I'm not aware of how far I had previously drifted in the ocean. It seems too far and I fear that I have started in the wrong direction. Where are the others I was just speaking to? I hope for their help to come. Faintly, I can hear Leila ask Gabriel, "Why can we not help him." Gabriel: "The Father says he must be able to survive on his own." I change direction and begin running again. I can tell they are both becoming worried. I keep running but it seems much to far to where I last saw my parents. In despair, I fall to my knees in the sand. Why has father left me? Why are they not sending help now? I call out, "Where are you? Father, why have you left me?" A few moments and I am about to lose all hope. It did feel like a dream. Maybe it was and now I won't survive. Then I hear his voice once more "I am here. You have done well. You need to call me when you need help. You need to remember that." Then he tells them, "Help him to return." I'm very relieved. I stand and start out again. I hear them well now. "Not that way, the other way, turn around!" I turn around and run faster now, things begin to look familiar. I see my mother sitting on the beach and I run to her. She has water. I am saved.
